In exciting news a "volunteer" elder show up on the land this year shortly after the garden project was complete. This is considered to be a very good omen. Herbalist Rosemary Gladstar says that when an elder plant arrives in a garden it means the garden has been blessed by the plant spirits. Matthew Wood says it's a sign that the lines of communication are open between the spirit and earthly realms. We are taking it as a good sign and hopefully Tricia can follow these pathways to continue to share her knowledge and wisdom with us.
The most surprising gift this year has been the big and beautiful comfrey plant that seems to be taking over almost one full raised bed! This was a gift from the Sarlo family and when we planted it we were not sure if it was going to survive. Well, it is has and is thriving! Comfrey was one of Tricia's favorite plants and she used in so many of her herbal body care products. We have already harvested some leaves for our fall tea and will harvest more as the season winds down.
We thank everyone who has donated their time, plants, and resources to this garden project. Through your efforts Tricia and my dream to teach more people about the power of plants is coming true.
Please stay tuned as we gear up for an even more abundant spring with more herb walks and medicine making classes on-site!
